EVANSTON, Ill. - The Notre Dame women's tennis team kicked off the Midwest Regional Championships on the right foot as the Irish doubles duo advanced to the Round of 16.

After earning a bye in the first round, the 15th-ranked Irish duo of sophomore Kristy Frilling and senior Kali Krisik, also the top seed in the regional tournament, topped DePaul's Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic, 8-4, to advance to the Round of 16. Frilling and Krisik will take on Iowa's Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Sonja Molnar in the third round Saturday at 9 a.m.

Three members of the Irish squad will also compete in the singles tournament, which gets underway Saturday. No. 20 Frilling, the tournament's second-seeded player, and Krisik earned byes in the first round, while junior Kristen Rafael will take on Marquette's Kelly Barry in round one.
