EAST LANSING, Mich. - Three Irish doubles teams advanced to the Round of 16 after the first day of play Friday at the ITA Midwest Regionals.

Senior Kelcy Tefft and freshman Kristy Frilling defeated Northern Illinois' Sarah McLaughlin and Emily Rogers, 8-1, in the first round.

Juniors Colleen Rielley and Cosmina Ciobanu teamed up to defeat Iowa's Kelcie Klockenga and Aly Majercik, 8-2. Junior Kali Krisik and freshman Shannon Mathews knocked off Purdue's Tatiana Gansha and Jennifer Rabot, 8-4, in round one.

Senior Katie Potts and sophomore Kristen Rafael dropped their first-round match to Illinois' Megan Fudge and Leigh Finnegan, 4-8.

In round two, Tefft and Frilling defeated Ohio State's Angela Dispastina and Paloma Escobedo, 8-3. Rielley and Ciobanu downed Ohio State's Julie Voss and Kelsey Haviland, 8-2, and Krisik and Mathews defeated Michigan's Lindsay Howard and Kari Wig, 8-5.

In their consolation round, Potts and Rafael defeated Drake's Veronika Leszayova and Sarah Plowman, 8-4.

Midwest Regionals doubles action continues and singles main draw play gets underway Saturday.
