ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Notre Dame women's tennis freshman Alicia Salas won twice on Thursday to reach the singles qualifying round at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Region Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. Salas defeated Purdue's Lisa Walgenbach 6-1, 6-0 and then beat Bowling Green's Abby Bratton 6-2, 6-1. She will face Illinois State's Liina Suurvarik on Friday for a spot in the main draw.

Irish senior All-American Michelle Dasso leads the 64-player main draw as the top seed and is one of six Irish players already in the main draw -- the most of any school. Juniors Becky Varnum and Nina Vaughan have been seeded No. 9-12, while senior Kimberly Guy, junior Lindsey Green and freshman Caylan Leslie also have qualified for the main draw. Dasso and Varnum are seeded first in doubles and the defending champions, while Guy and sophomore Katie Cunha are seeded third. Salas and Vaughan also are in the main doubles draw.
