NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Irish sophomore Kristy Frilling advanced to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships round of 16 Thursday with a three-set victory over California's Mari Andersson.

The 20th-ranked Frilling broke a 5-5 tie to win the first set, 7-5, but Andersson, the nation's 26th-ranked singles player, was able to take the second, 6-4. In the final set, Frilling took an early lead before battling to a 6-3 win to capture the first-round victory.

Frilling was now face Washington's No. 16 and eighth-seeded Venise Chan Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the round of 16.
