Irish Complete Day Two at Midwest Blast

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Notre Dame women's tennis team compiled a 5-4 record in singles and doubles action Saturday at the Midwest Blast hosted by Illinois.

The Irish took on host-team Illinois in doubles action early in the day.

Juniors Cosmina Ciobanu and Kali Krisik defeated Chelcie Abajian and Marisa Lambropoulos, 8-5. Freshman Shannon Mathews and junior Colleen Rielley downed Megan Fudge and Leigh Finnegan, 8-1, and senior Katie Potts and sophomore Kristen Rafael dropped Shivani Dave and Amy Allin, 8-2.

The Irish faced Wichita State in six singles matches to close out the day.

No. 98 Krisik defeated Anna Egorova, 6-2, 6-2, while Rafael downed Florentina Hanisch, 6-2, 6-4. Luftiana Budiharto defeated Mathews, 6-4, 6-0, and Torrie Browning knocked off No. 78 Ciobanu, 6-4, 6-3. Stephanie Dalmacio defeated No. 104 Rielley, 6-2, 6-4, and Lenore Lazaroia took down Potts, 6-4, 6-3.

The Irish will wrap up play at the Midwest Blast Sunday.
