Notre Dame Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten With 7-2 Win Over Ohio State
Notre Dame, Ind. ---- Despite losing singles matches at the numbers one and two positions, the 15th ranked University of Notre Dame women's tennis remained unbeaten with a 7-2 win over visiting Ohio State as the Irish improved to 3-0. .
Jennifer Hall, playing first singles, and Marisa Velasco, playing in the number two spot, each lost their singles matches in three sets. Hall fell victim to Kristy Dascoli 7-6, 3-6, 7-5, while was beaten by Briana Harris 7-6, 0-6, 7-6.
Michelle Dasso won her match at number three singles in convincing fashion as she registered a 6-4, 6-0 win over Amanda Yeley. Tiffany Gates and Kelly Zalinski registered identical 6-4, 6-2 straight set victories over their opponents and the numbers four and five positions, respectively. Gates was winner over Kadri Kanepi, while Zalinski defeated Cara Whittingham. Kelley Olson produced the final singles victory at the number six spot as she beat Caroline Nahuz in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
All three doubles teams produced victories. The team of Gates and Hall beat Dascoli and Harris at the number one spot 8-6, while the teams Dasso and Velasco (No. 2 doubles) and Olson and Velasco (No. 3 doubles) each won their matches by 8-3 counts.
Notre Dame returns to action tomorrow (February 14) at 1:00 p.m. when the Irish host 12th-ranked Tennessee.
