Irish Women's Tennis Falls to Vanderbilt
Notre Dame faces California next at USTA/ITA Women's National Indoor Championship
MADISON, Wis. --- The Vanderbilt doubles duo of Callie Creighton and Sarah Brown defeated Notre Dame's Kelley Olson and Kelly Zalinksi at the No. 3 spot to lead the Lady Commodores to a 5-4 win over the Irish in the first round of the USTA/ITA Women's National Indoor Championship.
Notre Dame falls to 5-1 on the season and is ranked No. 15 in the country. The Irish will begin consolation play on Friday. Vanderbilt is 7-1 and ranked No. 16 in the country. They will meet California in the second round on Friday.
The two teams started the match by splitting the six singles matches as the Irish picked up wins at No. 1 by Jennifer Hall, No. 2 by Michelle Dasso and No. 3 by Marisa Velasco.
Dasso and Velasco won at No. 2 doubles, but wins by Vandy at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles gave Vanderbilt the win.
