No. 16 Notre Dame Defeats Syracuse, 8-1

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The 16th-ranked Notre Dame women's tennis team claimed five of six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over Syracuse at the Eck Pavilion on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Michelle Dasso, junior Marisa Velasco and sophomore Kelly Zalinski won singles and doubles matches for Notre Dame as the Irish improved to 7-2 on the season. Jennifer Hall also recorded a singles victory for the Irish with a 6-2, 6-1 win in number one singles.

The Irish swept the three doubles matches with Dasso and Velasco recording an 8-3 victory in number one doubles. Kelley Olson and Zalinski teamed up to win number two doubles 6-2, 6-1 and Kim Guy and Courtney Haskell won their number three doubles match 8-1.

Syracuse, which received a victory in number six singles from Anna Khvalina, fell to 1-6 on the season.

Notre Dame returns to action tomorrow morning when the Irish host Minnesota and Kansas beginning at 9 a.m. at the Eck Pavilion.
