Irish Fall to Duke, 8-1

DURHAM, N.C. -- Notre Dame's 17th-ranked women's tennis team fell to third-ranked Duke 8-1 on Saturday in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils swept the Irish in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets to clinch the match early. Notre Dame's only point came in a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles. The loss drops Notre Dame to 14-8 while Duke improves to 20-3.
Freshman Michelle Dasso lost her first dual-match singles match, dropping a 6-4, 6-4 match to Duke's Kristin Sanderson at No. 2 singles. Dasso entered the match 20-0 in dual matches this season before losing her first of the season. Senior Kelley Olson and sophomore Kelly Zalinski scored Notre Dame's only point with a 9-7 win over Duke's Ellen McCance and Brooke Siebel at No. 3 doubles.
The match was the third straight for the Irish against an ACC opponent. Notre Dame beat Maryland on Sunday, April 5, and #10 Wake Forest on Thursday, April 9, both by 8-1 scores before losing 8-1 to Duke. The Irish travel to Clemson on Monday to play their fourth straight ACC opponent.
