Irish Take Wake Forest 8-1April 9, 1998
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- The University of Notre Dame women's tennis team, ranked No. 17 in the country, defeated No. 10 Wake Forest by an 8-1 score on Thursday afternoon. Notre Dame improves to 14-7 on the season while Wake Forest is 11-7.
The win was the first over a top 10 opponent for the Irish since the 1996 NCAA Championship, when the Irish posted a 5-0 win over No. 10 BYU in the first round.
Freshman Michelle Dasso continued her winning ways for the Irish at No. 2 singles as she posted a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Mariel Verban. Dasso is the No. 19 ranked player in the country and now has a singles record of 36-4 this season and 20-0 in dual match player.
Junior Jennifer Hall, the No. 22 ranked player in the country, was a winner at No. 1 singles for the Irish with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nicola Kaiwai. Hall and Dasso were also winners for the Irish in doubles.
