NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team will open its season with a pair of matches on Sunday, welcoming Western Michigan and Wright State to the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

On The Broncos

  • Western Michigan opened the season with wins over Oakland and Valparaiso on January 14 and will face Indiana on Saturday.
  • Five Broncos are undefeated in dual matches this season, led by Barbare Eristavi, who owns a 13-1 record dating back to the fall, and Denise Azcui, who is 12-2 on the season and has won seven straight matches.
  • The Broncos went 19-8 last season and advanced to the Mid-American Conference Championship before falling to Ball State in the final.
  • The Irish are 16-4 all time against the Broncos, including 12-0 under head coach Jay Louderback.

On The Raiders

  • Wright State entered the weekend 1-1 with a win over Saint Francis (Pa.) and a loss to No. 7 Ohio State last weekend.
  • The Raiders will host both IUPUI and Dayton on Saturday before making the trip to face the Irish at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
  • Sunday’s match will be the first meeting in the series between Notre Dame and Wright State.

Rankings Rundown

Junior Brooke Broda enters the dual season ranked No. 92 in the Oracle/ITA DIvision I National Women’s Singles Rankings. The West Chester, Ohio, product is 6-2 on the season and is coming off an All-ACC Third Team appearance last season after posting a 28-2 mark, including 22-1 in dual matches.

No. 33 Irish Sweep Western Michigan 7-0 To Open Season
The University of Notre Dame women's tennis team kicked the spring dual season off in style Tuesday with dominating performances punctuating a convincing 7-0 victory over Western Michigan at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
