Inside Irish: Florida State & Georgia Tech

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The 28th-ranked University of Notre Dame women’s tennis will head south on its penultimate road trip of the regular season, facing off with Florida State on Thursday before wrapping the trip at Georgia Tech on Saturday.

On The Seminoles

  • Florida State enters Thursday’s contest at 12-8 and a winner in its last four matches.
  • The Seminoles have one ranked player on the roster, No. 11 Julia Mikulski, who is 9-6 between No. 1, 2 and 3 singles. Ariana Rahmanparast is 10-8 in singles for the Seminoles.
  • The Irish are 3-1 in the all-time series against the Seminoles. Notre Dame defeated Florida State 4-3 last season.
  • The match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and can be live streamed on WatchESPN or through the WatchESPN app.

On The Yellow Jackets

  • After reaching the ACC Semifinals last season, Georgia Tech has had one of the best seasons among all of women’s college tennis in 2017. The Yellow Jackets are ranked sixth nationally, are undefeated in conference play and are in the midst of a 14-match win streak. They will face Boston College on Friday before welcoming the Irish on Saturday.
  • Georgia Tech boasts three ranked singles players: No. 42 Rasheeda McAdoo (11-5; 6-3 at No. 1), No. 81 Paige Hourigan (16-4; 9-1 at No. 2) and No. 93 Johnisse Renaud (16-5; 6-2 at No. 1, 6-1 at No. 3). Two other players can claim impressive records, as well: Nami Otsuka (18-1; 15-1 at No. 6) and Kenya Jones (16-4; 15-4 at No. 5).
  • Renaud and McAdoo make up the 20th ranked doubles team in the country. The pair is 10-4 at No. 1 doubles.
  • Georgia Tech owns an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series with Notre Dame. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Irish twice last season, 4-3 during the regular season at Notre Dame and 4-0 in the ACC Championship quarterfinal.

Last Time Out

Notre Dame closed out its home slate last weekend against Duke and North Carolina, falling to the Blue Devils 4-3 and the Tar Heels 7-0.

ACC Outlook

Notre Dame currently sits in fourth place in the ACC standings with a 7-4 conference mark, behind Georgia Tech (10-0), Duke (9-0) and North Carolina (8-1). Wake Forest is just behind the Irish at 6-5.

Singles Standouts

The Irish are a collective 84-38 in dual singles matches this season, with five of six regular starters owning six losses or fewer. Freshman Zoe Spence and junior Allison Miller are both 15-6 on the year; senior Monica Robinson is 14-5; senior Mary Closs is 12-4 and sophomore Rachel Chong is 11-4 on the year. Junior Brooke Broda is 10-7 on the season.

Rankings Rundown

The Irish rose one spot in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Women’s Tennis Rankings last week, coming in at No. 28. Monica Robinson is ranked No. 72 in the singles rankings.
