Lee Named to Volleyball Academic All-District V Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame senior outside hitter Jaimie Lee (Spokane, Wash.) is among six players who have been named to the 1997 GTE Academic All-District V team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The award comes just days after Lee was selected as the 1997 BIG EAST Conference player of the year and BIG EAST tournament most valuable player. She is one of 48 Division I volleyball players to be named to one of the eight Academic All-District teams.

CoSIDA next will evaluate the 48 Academic All-District selections and then will name six to the GTE Academic All-America first team, six to the second team and six to the third team. The volleyball Academic All-America teams are to be announced Dec. 10.

Lee owns a 3.341 cumulative grade-point average as a sociology major and was named to the Notre Dame Dean's List during both semesters of her junior year. She repeated as BIG EAST player of the year and then earned BIG EAST Tournament MVP honors after totaling a career-best 29 kills in the title match versus Villanova (setting a Notre Dame record for a four-game match).

Lee captained the United States team last summer to a silver-medal finish at the 1997 World University Games in Catania, Sicily. She led the BIG EAST this season with a .451 hitting percentage in conference play while ranking sixth in the conference with 4.33 kills per game. For the entire 1997 season, Lee ranks fourth among BIG EAST players with a .307 hitting percentage while averaging 4.31 kills/gm (second in the BIG EAST) and a team-best 2.89 digs per game.

In six matches versus nationally-ranked teams, Lee has averaged 4.40 kills/gm, highlighted by 20 kills versus then-#2 Florida She is the only player in the Notre Dame career top 10 for hitting percentage, kills, digs, aces, blocks and assists and has appeared in 97.8 percent (131 of 134) of Notre Dame's matches in her career, missing two of those matches during the World University Games.

The other player named to the Academic All-District V team are: Angela Corder (Western Illinois, Jr., OH), Liz Cothren (Ball State, Sr., MB), Kristi Geary (Illinois State, Sr., OH), Karis Keeran (Indiana State, Sr., OH) and Martha Meyer (Marquette, Sr., OH).
