AS A JUNIOR: Played in 52 games and 22 of the team’s matches, making one start ... had two, four-dig matches against Illinois State and Connecticut ... had five digs and two assists versus Providence ... had a kill, an assist, and four digs against Boston College ... played two games against UConn, recording three digs ... had season-high nine digs versus Seton Hall ... played three games against against St. John’s, recording six digs ... saw action in three games in the back row with five digs in the season opener against Valparaiso. AS A SOPHOMORE: Saw action in 30 matches and 102 games in ’98 as a defensive specialist ... the team’s primary defensive specialist, who also got a few rotations in at outside hitter during the early tournament season ... only missed one match (vs. Rutgers) ... had at least one dig in all but two matches ... had 11 digs in the five-game loss to Connecticut ... posted a career best 16 digs against North Carolina (4.00/game) ... had 15 digs in a five-game match with Oral Roberts ... had 12 digs in a three-game win over Villanova ... started the first round NCAA Tournament match versus Eastern Washington ... had a kill and an ace to go along with seven digs in the three-game win over the Eagles. AS A FRESHMAN: Appeared in 33 matches and 90 of 119 games in ’97, as primarily a backrow player ... averaged 1.09 digs per game (98 total) ... posted five digs in early loss to Wisconsin and seven in 3-0 win at Gonzaga ... her eight digs helped the Irish beat Villanova (3-1) for the BIG EAST Tournament title ... averaged nearly two digs per game over the final seven matches, including a season-high 11 against UC Santa Barbara ... also had seven digs versus Liberty in the NCAAs, 10 in the NCAA win at Arkansas and six in the season-ending loss at Wisconsin. PREP & PERSONAL: Concluded her pre-college career by leading Saddleback Valley to the finals of the 1997 Davis Volleyball Festival ... named top senior student-athlete at Capistrano Valley High School, due to her athletic and community service accomplishments ... first-team all-league and second-team all-California Interscholastic Federation as a senior ... received most inspirational award as a freshman and coaches award as a sophomore ... twice named team offensive MVP ... led Capistrano Valley to a 17-4 record in ’96 and the CIF sectional finals ... as a senior, attained the Gold Award, the highest honor awarded in Girl Scouts ... her Gold Award service project entailed collecting countless items for Laura’s House, a battered women’s shelter in the south Orange County area ... has a twin brother Kevin ... served as president of her high school National Honor Society ... born Oct. 1, 1979, in San Francisco, Calif. ... full name is Adrienne Claudia Shimmel ... daughter of David and Nicola Shimmel ... enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters with a major in film and television. |
