Notre Dame Pushes Win Streak to Seven in Sweep of Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Notre Dame continued its run of excellent play on Sunday afternoon, extending its winning streak to a season-high seven matches with a 3-0 win over Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. With the victory the Irish remain unbeaten in conference play with a record of 6-0 and improve to 15-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Starting quickly has been a theme for the Irish as of late, as Notre Dame won the first set on Sunday for the sixth straight match, taking the opener by a score of 25-18. The second set was the closest of the match but Notre Dame controlled the set. After losing the first point of the frame, the Irish never trailed the rest of the way en route to a 25-21 win to make the match score 2-0.

The third set was close in the early stages but with the score tied at 4-4 the Irish went on an 11-2 run to break the stanza wide open and take a commanding 15-6 advantage. From there Notre Dame coasted to a 25-12 win to complete the sweep at 3-0, its second sweep of the weekend.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Jemma Yeadon was a menace to the Eagles on Sunday, as the freshman posted a double-double to lead the Irish to victory. The Mercer Island, Washington native posted a team-high 14 kills to go along with 11 digs and two aces. 

NOTRE DAME STAT OF THE MATCH

The Irish attack was a model of efficiency on Sunday against Boston College, hammering out 41 kills on 91 attempts while making just seven errors for a hitting percentage of .374.Yeadon, Sydney Kuhn, Rebecca Nunge and Katie Higgins each finished with hitting percentages over .300 for the match.

NOTES OF THE MATCH

  • Notre Dame's 15-3 record marks the best start since 2005 and its 6-0 ACC mark is the best in program history.
  • The Irish are now 15-4 against Boston College in the all-time series.
  • Notre Dame's seven match winning streak is the longest for the program since reeling off 11 consecutive win in 2012.
  • The Irish improve to 8-1 when playing away from Purcell Pavilion in 2016.
  • 10 of Notre Dame's 15 wins have been in straight sets.
  • Yeadon has a team-best six double-double performances on the season.
