Oct. 27, 2007
Final Stats
STORRS, Conn. - Sade Chambers notched a match-high 21 kills with a .450 hitting percentage for the University of Connecticut volleyball team as the Huskies handed Notre Dame a 3-1 (30-26, 24-30, 30-22, 30-23) BIG EAST Conference loss Saturday at Gampel Pavilion. Notre Dame (9-11 overall, 5-4 BIG EAST) was paced by junior Justine Stremick (Langdon, N.D./Langdon Area) and her 13 kills on a .306 clip. Stremick had four blocks - including two solo stops - and senior Adrianna Stasiuk (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) turned in 21 digs for the second time in as many contests. Sophomore Serinity Phillips had a team-high 14 kills to go along with 18 digs. UConn (14-9 overall, 5-4 BIG EAST) took the first point of game two, but Notre Dame battled to tie the frame at 6-6 before orchestrating an 11-5 run to put the game out of Husky reach. Phillips had four kills over the final stretch as Stasiuk and freshman Kellie Sciacca (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) each had three. The Irish hit .286 in the second frame, which was its highest single-game mark of the match. UConn out-hit Notre Dame for the match, .249 to .146. A 4-0 Irish lead was erased with a Husky rally that tied game three at 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, and 8-8. Back-to-back kills by Phillips brought Notre Dame within two, 19-17, but the Huskies ignited for a 10-3 spurt to take control of the stanza. In game four, the Irish trailed by as many as seven (21-14) but chopped into the UConn lead to make the score 25-22. Phillips would provide ND's last score after that point before UConn closed the game with a Bridget Denson-Dorman kill. Senior setter Ashley Tarutis (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) tossed out 44 assists and had 12 digs for Notre Dame. The Irish also got 13 digs from freshman Megan Dunne (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley).
Notre Dame now travels to Jamaica, N.Y., for a matchup at No. 23 St. John's starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 27).
