Dominant Third Set Leads Irish To Clemson Sweep

Nov. 18, 2016

Final Stats

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Sophomore libero Ryann DeJarld recorded her 1,000th career dig early in the contest, and freshman outside hitter Jemma Yeadon contributed a team-high 16 kills to power Notre Dame (20-9, 11-6 ACC) in a 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sweep at Clemson (6-23, 1-16 ACC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Notre Dame opened with a 25-18 first set triumph, scoring six of the final seven points of the frame. The Irish registered 14 kills to finish with a .310 hitting percentage for the set.

After Clemson closed an early deficit to 14-13 in favor of Notre Dame during the second set, the Irish ultimately won five of the next seven points to open a 19-15 advantage. The Tigers trimmed the gap once more to 21-18 before Notre Dame scored four of the final six points to go up two sets to none with a 25-20 stanza.

Notre Dame quickly broke away from Clemson in what began as a 5-3 third set, scoring eight of the next nine points to raise its lead over the host Tigers to 13-4. Clemson would get within eight points at 14-6 before the Irish put the match away, taking 11 of the final 14 points for the match sweep at 25-9. The Irish hit at a .522 clip in the final set, registering only one error in 23 total attack opportunities to finish off the victory.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
For the 16th time this season, Jemma Yeadon registered double digit kills to pace the Notre Dame attack. Yeadon's 16 kills against Clemson, which were two from equaling a season-high 18 set on Sept. 30 against Duke, marked the third straight match the freshman outside hitter finished in double figures in kills. Yeadon logged six kills during the third set alone, which included three straight to put Notre Dame ahead 13-4 in the frame.

STAT OF THE MATCH
As a team, Notre Dame hit above a .350 clip for an entire match for the third time this season, finishing with 40 kills and a .360 hitting percentage at Clemson. The Irish also held Clemson to nine points during the third set (25-9) to complete the match sweep, the fewest points a Notre Dame opponent has managed in a single set this season.
