Notre Dame Volleyball Notes (after Oct. 7 win over Illinois State)
TEAM NOTES: The Irish have averaged .355 hitting over their last four matches. Tuesday victory was the 292nd of Debbie Brown's 12-year Division I head coaching career, leaving her eight shy of the 300- win plateau. Notre Dame has won 52 of its last 53 home matches against unranked opponents and is 77-3 at home versus unranked teams during the Brown era (1991- ).
ANGIE HARRIS NOTES: Harris has hit 20-plus kills in five matches during the 1997 season and 16 times in her career, tied with Zanette Bennett (1985-88) for 2nd in Irish history ('95 graduate Christy Peters is first, with 19) ... just four previous Notre Dame players have totaled more than five 20-plus kill matches in a season: Peters (9 in '94), Bennett (8 in '87), Alicia Turner (6 in '89) and Harris (6 in '95) ... Harris' three aces keep her Irish record career ace average at 0.627 per game (208/332) ... after a slow start to her season ace total, Harris has averaged 0.90 aces per game over the last six matches (17/19) ... Harris now is averaging .054 aces/gm for the '97 season, giving her the top four season ace averages in Irish history ... Harris' 23 kills give her 1,299 in her career and move her into a tie for 3rd all-time at Notre Dame with Jessica Fiebelkorn (1985-88), trailing only Bennett (1,471) and Christy Peters (1,683) ... Harris raised her season kill average to 4.12/gm (5th in Irish history).
JAIMIE LEE NOTES: Lee has played in 97.5 percent of Notre Dame's matches during her four-year career (117/120), with two of those missed matches coming earlier this season when she was busy captaining the U.S. World University Games team ... Lee's 1,152 career kills rank 9th in Irish history, 10 behind Turner (1989-92), 19 behind Jenny Birkner (1993-96), 36 behind Mary Kay Waller (1985-88) and 41 behind Maureen Shea (1985-88) ... Lee's season kill average of 4.59/gm is exactly on pace with the Irish record set by Peters in 1994 ... Lee enters Friday's match at Boston College 39 digs shy of joining Turner, Fiebelkorn, Peters and Birkner as the 5th member of Notre Dame's 1,000-kill/1,000-dig club ... Lee's 15 digs vs. ISU moved her past Shea (959) into 7th on the Irish career digs list (961), just one behind former teammate Brett Hensel (1992-95).
HARRIS AND LEE NOTES: Lee raised her career kill average to 2.98/gm, 4th in Irish history (Harris is first, at 3.91) ... Lee needs 48 more kills to make Harris and Lee the only Irish classmates to both reach 1,200 career kills ... Harris and Lee are on pace to become the first Irish teammates to both average 4.0-plus kills/gm in the same season (they already are the first with 3.9-plus, doing so in '95) ... Harris ranks 2nd in Irish history with 70 career double-digit kill matches (Peters is 1st, with 80) while Lee is 5th, with 52 ... Harris and Lee are the first Irish teammates to both total more than 50 double-digit kill matches in their careers ... Harris now ranks 4th in Irish history with 30 career double-doubles (matches with 10-plus kills and 10-plus digs) while Lee is 7th with 26, two behind Bennett and three behind Turner ... Harris remains 7th in Irish history for career dig avg. (2.59/gm) while Lee remains 9th at 2.49/gm.
