NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame volleyball setter Maggie Brindock has been selected to participate in this summer's U.S. Women's National A2 Team Program, as announced recently by USA Volleyball.

The 2012 U.S. Women's National A2 Team program was selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 10-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A record 207 athletes participated in the tryout. Athletes with collegiate eligibility remaining for the 2012 collegiate season not selected to join the U.S. Women's National Team were eligible for the U.S. Women's A2 program.

"I am so proud of Maggie and believe that it's a great honor for her to be selected to the A2 team," Irish head coach Debbie Brown said. "She has worked incredibly hard to take her game to the next level and this experience is another key in her development as an elite setter."

Brindock, a rising junior, led the Irish with 7.54 assists/set during the 2011 regular season and steered Notre Dame to an appearance in the final match of the BIG EAST Conference Championship. Brindock added 3.06 digs/set throughout Notre Dame's 17-13 campaign.

Brindock is one of 48 student-athletes named to the U.S. Women's National A2 Team Program. The A2 program includes eight liberos, 12 middle blockers, 14 outside hitters, six opposite-side hitters and eight setters.

Coaches selected for the 2012 U.S. Women's National A2 Team Program are Northwestern University's Keylor Chan, San Diego State University's Deitre Collins-Parker, Georgia Tech's Tanya Johnson, Pepperdine University's Nina Matthies and Cal State Northridge's Jeff Stork. One additional coaching position will be filled at a later date.

Training begins June 26 at Ohio Dominican University while the matches will be held June 30 - July 4 during the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships (GJNC) at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

During the pre-tournament training session, the 48 athletes will be divided into four teams of 12 players that will play one match per day during the GJNC. All matches will be A2 teams competing against each other in a round-robin format followed by a semifinal and final round.
