Aug. 9, 2016 by Tony Jones

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A pair of former University of Notre Dame standouts are set to take to the field and sand during the fourth official day of the 2016 Olympic Games on Tuesday.

Two-time Notre Dame All-American Melissa Tancredi and Team Canada are set to play the team’s final game of women’s soccer Group F play with a 3 p.m. (ET) showdown against Germany (NBC Sports Live Extra). Canada can clinch the top spot in Group F with a win or draw against the German side, following a 2-0 shutout of Australia on Aug. 3 and a 3-1 triumph over Zimbabwe on Aug. 6.

Tancredi, a mainstay with more than 100 career caps with Team Canada that included a bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, has started the first two Canadian matches in Group F at the 2016 Olympics. She saw 60 plus minutes on the pitch in the victory against Zimbabwe after previously exiting in the 23rd minute against Australia.
