NOTRE DAME, Ind. - For the first time since 2003, the University of Notre Dame volleyball team is shipping up to Boston for a matchup with former BIG EAST foe and now Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College.

A series that began in 1991, which was a yearly meeting from 1995-2004 when the two programs played in the BIG EAST, gets renewed at 5 p.m. Saturday at Power Gym. Fans can follow the match through the gametracker link on UND.com.

Notre Dame (10-14, 4-9 ACC) leads the all-time series against BC (9-16, 0-12 ACC) 11-1, with the lone loss coming at Purcell Pavilion in 2004.

BC has had a tough 2013 season as the Eagles are still looking for their first win in league play and their first win period since a sweep of Binghamton Sept. 14. Powering the Eagles on offense is sophomore Katty Workman, who is hitting just .137, but is fourth in the ACC in kills with 335 (3.76 per set).

"Katty is a really talented player with a great arm," said head coach Debbie Brown. "She is a solid six-rotation player for them. She has been able to put down a lot of kills this season, which has led teams to really focus in on her and explains her low attack percentage."

The Eagles also boast a solid serving and digging team, as they place sixth in the ACC with 1.30 service aces per set (117) and fifth in the league with 14.94 digs per set (1,345).

"BC serves aggressively and has a great defensive mindset," said Brown. "We are expecting them to play and fight hard and scrap for every point."

Notre Dame is coming off a tough 3-0 loss at Syracuse Wednesday night, where the Irish held late leads in both the second (22-15) and third (20-17) sets only to lose both.

Junior Toni Alugbue had a team-high 11 kills in the loss to up her team-high total to 281 on the year. Alugbue is also second on the team in digs with 2.25 per set. Fellow junior Jeni Houser is eighth in the ACC in attack percentage (.311), having put down 241 kills in 550 chances this season. Senior setter Maggie Brindock is seventh in the league in assists per set (9.15), while senior libero Andrea McHugh tops the squad in both digs (309) and service aces (15).
