Community service plays and important role in many Notre Dame students' lives. Most student-athletes are inclined to involve themselves in the local community. Student Welfare and Development connects individual student-athletes and/or entire teams with various organizations in the surrounding community.

Each year student-athletes and teams are recognized for their many contributions to the community. The Christopher Zorich Award is presented annually to student-athletes who exceed the expectations of the University through leadership and service contributions. The Trophy Award is presented to teams for their commitment and dedication to community service. Student-athletes and teams receiving these awards are acknowledged at the annual celebratory event, the O.S.C.A.R.S. (Outstanding Students Celebrating Achievements & Recognition Showcase).
